Hermeus is an aerospace and defense technology company founded to radically accelerate air travel by delivering hypersonic aircraft. The company aims to develop hypersonic aircraft quickly and cost-effectively by integrating hardware-rich, iterative development with modern computing and autonomy. This approach has been validated through design, build, and test of the company’s first combined turbojet-ramjet engine and is now being scaled through its first flight vehicle program, Quarterhorse. Hermeus is also developing Darkhorse — an uncrewed hypersonic aircraft designed to deliver unique asymmetric capabilities to the warfighter.
Responsibilities
Develop the electro-mechanical design of wire harnesses within our family of vehicles
Design packaging solutions for electro-mechanical assemblies
Generate electrical schematics to support both flight and qualification designs
Own vehicle-level harnessing mechanical assemblies and drive to closure all systems integration trades related to those assemblies
Perform thermal, structural, electrical and electromagnetic analysis (both hand calculations and finite element analysis) and physical testing of both harnessing and electro-mechanical assemblies
Drive failure analysis of components as it relates to thermal, loads, vibration and shock as needed
Perform R&D investigations and trade studies to push avionics system design to new boundaries in terms of mass and cost savings
Interface with internal and external manufacturing, supply chain, and testing teams to ensure final designs meet overall project goals
Own the hardware delivery timeline and success through inception, design, assembly, test, and integration
Lead design reviews internally and participate in reviews with suppliers and customers
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or physics
3+ years of experience with electromechanical design, analysis, and testing (internships and significant student project experience qualify)
Preferred Skills and Experience
Experience with wire harness 3D design, wire harness installation drawings, wiring diagrams, 3D modeling of complex top-level assemblies, 3D modeling and analysis of avionics enclosures and secondary structure
Proficient and frequent use of hand calculations for electrical, structural, thermal, vibration sizing of electro-mechanical assemblies and harnesses
Experience with CAD (NX preferred), FEA (Ansys preferred), and PLM (Teamcenter) software packages
Experience with fatigue, vibration, shock, vacuum, and thermal testing of electro-mechanical hardware
Experience working with PCB designers and exposure to PCB layout
1+ years of hands-on project experience with complex mechanical systems, preferably as a team lead (including internships)
Strong teamwork skills with a proven ability to effectively interact and collaborate with other engineering disciplines and excellent attention to detail
Demonstrated understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex mechanical systems
Additional Requirements
Ability to work long hours and weekends as necessary to support critical milestones
Willing to travel up to 30% of the time
$146,700 - $179,300 a year
